[edit] Education, Students, Universities
Hello. I've just realized that the content here is very similar to that at the education: Wikicity. I'd like to suggest the two merge since both are about universities, but I'd like you opinion on what the best URL for that wiki would be. "Education" would seem to be better suited for a wiki about education (methods of e-learning etc) rather than a place for university-related content. Is "students" a suitable name to keep the content you've been creating so far, or is there a chance that other people involved with university life who are not students would also want to be involved? Perhaps "universities" would be a better option? Please let me know what you think. Angela 01:51, 17 Feb 2005 (GMT)
- Oh, great, right after i've started advertising for it... q;-( But actually thinking about it, i don't know why schools wouldn't fit within this category. This is not an "education" related material though, more a review of universities (and schools if somebody wants to join). So i'd keep it as it is, i'll change the info page (i do have permissions to do that, right?) so that it reflects the acceptance of schools. I'll also try to advertise for that also. - After actually looking at Education wikicity i can see more clearly what you were talking about. It is true there will be overlapping between Students and them... however, it will not be a replication. Here is an example: Articles that were sent to the Student Union paper, Lecturer reviews, etc doesn't belong in Education. While actual educational material belongs in Education more than on Students. The redundancy comes when you come to listing Universities. I'm open to suggestions, but i say keep it as it is... i just don't want one huge category (knowledge?) fitting more than half of the current cities. Ethical Anarhist 07:49, 17 Feb 2005 (GMT)
- Thank you for your insightful comments. I'm now thinking this wiki should be aimed at students, and generally written by students, but not be educational in itself. Which would mean that content like the assignments currently at both education and schools should not be merged with what you're doing here. I do think the content of the university: Wikicity would fit well on this one though. I'm not yet sure if schools and education are too similar to each other. Angela 08:33, 17 Feb 2005 (GMT)

[edit] i want to be sysop...
My name is Felipe Sanches. My nickname is Juca (or, sometimes JucaBlues). I started the University of São Paulo subwiki at students.wikia.com. Take a look there...
I would like to get sysop status since I would like to delete some pages that went wrong while i was creating the USP portal. cya, Juca 16:31, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request
Hi,
My name is Seshadri. Currently I am developing a wiki-page for our student organization which helps international graduate students joining US universities by providing a list of Frequently Asked Questions, information regarding university housing, VISA process etc..
I plan to create a main page for each university like: http://students.wikia.com/wiki/UCSB
For each of such pages I would like to have articles that come under the hierarchy of that particular university like:
http://students.wikia.com/wiki/UCSB/Study_Spots http://students.wikia.com/wiki/UCSB/Thrift_Stores
both of which come under http://students.wikia.com/wiki/UCSB, with a link "<UCSB" under the main heading of the page.
I saw in the source of the wiki-code that you have created such links by using tags like : [[/Study_spots/]] and [[/Thrift Stores/]]. However, the standard mediawiki only uses the tags -- [[Page Title]] and does not recognize the tags [[/ Page Title/]]. Hence I was wondering if you were using some extension or modification in the code to implement , this very useful navigation system.
I would really appreciate if you could suggest me a way to implement that feature in the wiki for our organization.
Please reply to me.
