In our presentation we asked whethor or not online communities can be a force for social or political change. Specifically, looked at three sites: Kiva, Tribewanted, and Make Poverty History. We examined the communities within this site with special attention to the relationship between real world communities and online ones. We also looked at the ways that these sites used reciprocity to create their online communities. Lastly, we examined the change these sites were advocating-both online and real world- and concluded that through allowing themselves to be a portal for interaction between people with common interests, these sites were creating communities that were inspiring social and political change.
