Symbolic Action Edit

According to Sonja K. Foss in Rhetorical Criticism: Exploration and Practice (2nd ed), "...rhetoric comprises the actions performed when humans use symbols to communicate. This notion of rhetoric relies on viewing language as symbolic action. If symbolic acts are real, then reality is created through rhetoric and thus is not fixed, but is changeable. Thus, rhetorical criticism is a way of systematically investigating and explaining symbolic acts and artefacts in order to understand rhetorical processes." Kenena
