Spares Calculator

Description: Spares Calculator is a powerful, accurate and easy-to-use tool that can be used for spare parts management. Stock control is a part of this. The software allows to work out the risk of equipment stock-out. This way it is possible to plan contracts and logistics operations according to the obtained results.

The software package can be used with any component or equipment that has a stable Mean Time Between Failure Graph. The underlaying code is based on a process which is a member of the logarithmic Poisson family. These are the most widely accepted mathematical models for optimizing spares holdings. Features In order to let the software calculate the most optimal number of spare parts in stock, it is necessary to provide to following data: Units in service Daily operating hours Mean Time Between Failure Repair turn around time Unit cost One of the obtained results is a graphical representation of the stock-out-risk versus the number of spare parts. This can provide a general idea about how many parts is advised to keep in inventory. It is even possible to include the “No fault found ratio” in the model. This ratio indicates the percentage of components that will be returned but which are still usable. Of course, general functions like calculating when the next failure is expected, are also available. So the level of decision support you obtain from this software package is support in the numbers of spare parts you should keep in inventory in order to maximize the company's profit. But there is no support about preventive maintenance. It is assumed that a component is used until it is broken.
