Carnegie Mellon University is one of the top universities in the United States famous for its School of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering department, and it's College of Fine Arts, specifically the Drama department (the first in the nation), and its Architecture programs.
Carnegie Mellon University is located in the heart of the city of Pittsburgh, PA known as Oakland. It is bordered by the University of Pittsburgh, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill and Schenley Park to the south.
It was initially founded by industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1900 as Carnegie Technical Schools and later known as Carnegie Institute of Technology. In 1967 the school merged with Mellon Institute of Industrial Research (founded by Andrew and Richard Mellon in 1913) and became known as Carnegie Mellon University. The name Carnegie Institute of Technology remained as the name for the school of engineering.
