  • Meekness DOES NOT MEAN:
    • Niceness
    • Weakness
    • Peace at ANY price
  • Meekness is compatible with strength under control
  • Meekness is:
    • A TRUE view of ones self expressing it self in attitude and conduct towards others
    • Attitude toward yourself.
    • The expression of that attitude in relationship to others

  • THE TRULY MEEK NO LONGER PROJECT/DEFEND THEMSELVES BECAUSE THEY SEE NOTHING WORTH DEFENDING (THIS IS REAL HUMILITY)

  • Meekness always implies a teachable spirit
    • “Inherit the earth” (Psalm 37:9a; 37:11; 37:18b; 37:22a; 37:27b; 37:29
  • THE MEEK MAN IS ALWAYS SATISFIED AND ALWAYS CONTENT BECAUSE HE ALREADY INHERITS THE EARTH
  • THE HOLY SPIRIT ALONE CAN MAKE US POOR IN SPIRIT, MOURNFUL, AND MEEK. IF WE PROFESS CHRISTIANITY WE HAVE NO EXCUSE FOR NOT BEING MEEK
  • Matthew 5:6: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled
    • This beatitude deals with ambition
  • It is righteousness that exalts a nation, sin is a disgrace to any people
  • According to scripture, happiness should not be salt directly; it is always a result of seeking something else.
  • Righteousness is not obtainable by self (We are in despite need of help)
  • We are not to hunger for blessedness, experience, or reward
  • Righteousness includes
    • Justification (Faith in Christ) Eph. 2:8-9
    • Sanctification (The process of becoming holly) Phil. 1:6
  • One who hungers and thirsts for righteousness, will avoid anything apposed to it, even those things that dull or spiritual appetite (character)
  • Three aspects of righteousness
    • Legal
      • In order for you to be found innocent, it cannot be based on anything that we do, for we are sinners, it must come from an outside influence.
  • Justification – A right relationship with God, where He declares you to be righteous
    • Moral
      • Righteousness of character and conduct which is pleasing to God
    • Social
      • Concerned with seeking mans liberation from oppression, together with social rights, justice in the courts of law, integrity in business meetings, and honor in home and family affairs.
  • Malnutrition kills physically and spiritually
    • Righteousness is not a spiritual supplement. It is naturally necessary to spiritual life

  • The prodigal son longed for pig food because he was so hungry but when he was starving he turned to his father.
  • This type of hunger and thirst speaks of hunger of righteousness that only the father can satisfy
  • The person who genuinely hungers and thirsts for the righteousness finds it so satisfying that he wants more and more
  • “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him” John Piper
  • The marks of real spiritual hunger
    • Dissatisfied in self
    • Freedom from “external” dependence for satisfaction
    • A craving for God’s word (Feeding on God’s word creates a greater appetite)
    • Pleasantness with the things of God, but the easy and the difficult.
    • Unconditionally to seek and accept Gods righteousness in whatever form he chooses to provide it and to obey His commands no matter how demanding they are.
    • THE SPIRITUAL HUNGRY CRY MY SOULS CONSUMED FOR YOUR LAWS AT ALL TIMES. THEY CONFESS, “MY SOUL YEARNS FOR YOU. IN THE NIGHT IN THE MORNING MY SOUL LONGS FOR YOU.”
    • “WHEN GOD WORKS SUCH AND INSATIAPAL HUNGER AND THIRST, WE MAY BE SURE THAT HE WILL SATISFY IT AND FILL IT TO THE BRIM.” CHARLES SPURGEON
